Solving from Vertex Form
In this section, we will be learning how to solve (x-intercepts) from vertex form. Please look below to see a sample problem for the following concept:
STEPS TAKEN TO SOLVE FROM VERTEX FORM (in general):
-
Set the equation equal to the following value: "0".
-
Bring the k-value (2) to the left-hand side.
-
Square-root your k-value of 2 (with plus-minus sign) to get rid of the squared symbol located on the right-hand side.
-
Isolate for the variable by moving the number of 4 to the left-hand side.
-
Solve the equation with both the plus/minus sign.
-
Suggested: Write your final answers in the form of points (coordinates).
STEPS TAKEN TO SOLVE FROM VERTEX FORM (with respect to the example given above):
-
Set the equation equal to the following value: "0".
-
Bring the k-value to the left-hand side.
-
Square-root your k-value (with plus-minus sign) to get rid of the sqaured symbol located on the right-hand side.
-
Isolate for the variable by moving the number (with x-variable) to the left-hand side and make sure to place it infront of the square-root value.
-
Solve the equation with both the plus/minus sign.
