INTRODUCTION:                           Quadratics In Real Life

In are busy day-to-day lives, we hardly ever stop and wonder if, lets say, Quadratics, is ever useful in the modern world today. We assume it is not. However, the truth is, it actually is. The unit of Quadratics, the largest mathematical concept covered in Grade 10 Mathematics, is used in every-day life. The "Quadratic Equation", something we will learn about in this website, is actually used by constructers to design safe buildings, and eye-catching architectures. Believe it or not, even professional basketball players apply their knowledge of quadratics in a game, allowing them to accurately throw a basketball in the hoop!

The Battle:
Quadratics Mini-Unit 2

This will perhaps be the most lengthy of the three mini-units. Majority of this mini-unit will be revolving around the idea of "factoring". We will get introduced to the idea of "factoring", and will also learn how to factor using several different techniques. We will learn how to factor using: common factoring, simple trinomial factoring, complex trinomial factoring, factoring by grouping, perfect squares, and difference of squares. To finish off the mini-unit, we will apply our knowledge about "factoring" to solve for equations (solving for x-intercepts).

The Start:
Quadratics Mini-Unit 1

In this mini-unit, we will be starting to cover the basics about Quadratics. We will be exploring the parabolas, and their relation to this specific unit. In order for us to develop a basic understanding of Quadratics, we will also be learning about and analyzing the "Quadratic Relationship". Furthermore, once the basic understanding is developed, we will be moving onto learning about equations in vertex form and factored form. We will be investigating both the equations, and will also learn how to graph in the two equations.

The Run-To-The-Finish:
Quadratics Mini-Unit 3

This will be a short, yet important mini-unit. Throughout the majority of the unit, we will be working with equations in standard form. We will learn how to convert a standard form equation into a vertex form equation, through learning about a process called "completing the square". Furthermore, we will also get introduced to the "Quadratic Formula". We will learn how to use the formula, and will also learn about a specific part of the formula called the "discriminant". Despite this unit being short, hence the term "mini-unit", its value in shaping our understanding on Quadratics is immense.
